In celebration of the Bragg centenary, a short animated film has been released which details the journey of X-ray crystallography from the work of Max von Laue right up to the present day. The film was produced for the Royal Institution as part of the Ri Crystallography Collection
The fourth meeting of the Red Kite Network was held on Monday 9th September 2013, at Diamond Light Source.
The meeting included a tour of the synchrotron and a full programme of talks by local speakers, focussed on the use of synchrotron radiation as a structural probe.

Crystallographic structure refinement can involve hundreds of millions of calculations for a single iteration of structure refinement. The following freely available tools help identify bottlenecks in software implementations, and allow testing of potentially faster algorithms and compiler options. A time-critical portion of code from the crystallographic refinement package CRYSTALS is analysed here. Dr Pavlo Solntsev from the Department of Chemistry, University of Minnesota, USA, has written a detailed manual demonstrating the principles of modelling disorder in CRYSTALS. It is available here.
